Addressing health inequalities

To identify and address health inequalities and disparities faced in secure services across the region, we are bringing patients and providers together. The central themes we will work on are understanding the roots of health inequalities, amplifying patient and lived experience voices, and shaping equitable, transformative care across our region. By focusing on these, we seek practical solutions for fairer, more accessible care for all.

What is happening now?

This work is currently underway as a co-production led initiative focused on identifying the inequalities experienced by patients across Thames Valley & Wessex secure services. The focus is on understanding the root causes of these disparities and developing practical, patient-informed recommendations to address them.

Patients are actively involved, sharing their lived experiences and helping shape more equitable care. Their voices are central to the project, ensuring that future service improvements are informed by real-world insight.

What will come next?

The findings from the project will inform our commissioning decisions, enabling more targeted and effective interventions to reduce health inequalities. Providers will gain a clearer understanding of the specific challenges faced by patients and the actions needed to address them. This work directly supports the NHS Long Term Plan, with its emphasis on prevention and tackling health inequalities.

In the longer term

The project will contribute to a broader transformation across the Provider Collaborative footprint. By embedding its insights into strategic planning and service delivery, we aim to create more inclusive and responsive services. These efforts will help ensure that all individuals, regardless of background, receive high-quality, accessible, and fair care. This demonstrates a sustained commitment to reducing health disparities and improving outcomes for all.
