Impact of involvement

How our work supports young people in inpatient settings

Our work supports young people, and their families and carers, in CAMHS Tier 4 services. We make sure they feel listened to, respected, and valued – all of which can help with recovery.

Co-production and involvement involve working together with staff so that services fit what young people need and want. This helps people feel more in control and able to play a bigger part in their care.

Co-production and involvement help make decisions more equal between young people and professionals. It builds trust with staff, which can make the ward safer and lead to better results for patients. Our work also gives young people and their families and carers the chance to develop their skills, grow confidence and improve independence after discharged from their service.

Why it matters for young people and their families

Involvement and co-production make a real difference for young people and their families, offering a range of meaningful benefits that go far beyond simply having your voice heard.

  • Your voice matters – get an equal say in decisions
  • Shape services – help design care and support that works for young people and their families and carers
  • Build skills – co-production builds confidence, leadership and communication skills
  • Real change – your lived experience drives improvements for you and for others
  • Opportunities for payment for your time and contributions (see payment policy)
  • It looks great on your CV, or applications for volunteering, college or university!
large quote marks
I have gained so much confidence from lived experience work! I used to struggle to share my experiences and ideas, but this work has helped me to feel empowered. Being able to share what has helped me in my own recovery has helped to motivate me to take extra care of myself when I am struggling as it is a reminder that I can help others and to do that I must look after myself.”
